Rates & Insurance
Therapy Session Rates
Therapy Rates
Let’s find the right fit for you. We will discuss and set a fee during our initial 50-minute complimentary consultation on Zoom or in person at my office at 879 14th street, San Francisco, Ca 94114. During this meeting, I will also answer questions about payment options, frequency of sessions, and what to expect financially as we begin working together.
Discounts
Clients who choose to attend sessions twice weekly—whether individual or couples therapy—may benefit from a reduced rate. This option can offer deeper, more sustained therapeutic progress when appropriate for your needs.
Reduced Fees
I offer a limited number of reduced-fee slots based on financial need. These are reassessed every six months to ensure they still align with your circumstances. If we are unable to find a fee that works for you, I am always happy to help with referrals and additional resources.
Sliding Scale
At this time, I do not offer a sliding scale outside of my limited reduced-fee spots.
Insurance & Payment Information
Do you take insurance?
I do not accept insurance and am considered an out-of-network provider. Many clients still choose to work with me because they prefer privacy, flexibility, and the depth-oriented approach that private-pay psychotherapy offers.
Can you bill my insurance directly?
Because I am an out-of-network provider, I cannot bill your insurance company on your behalf. However, many clients receive partial reimbursement by submitting monthly superbills directly to their insurance plan. The process is usually straightforward, and I provide everything you need to file the claim.
Using Out-of-Network Benefits
Can I still use my insurance benefits?
Yes. Many PPO insurance plans reimburse a portion of out-of-network mental health services. If your plan includes this type of coverage, you may be able to lower your total out-of-pocket cost.
Why do some people prefer out-of-network therapy?
Working out-of-network offers several advantages clients often value:
• Greater Privacy and Confidentiality
Insurance companies require diagnostic codes and sometimes treatment plans or progress updates for in-network providers. Out-of-network therapy allows you to keep your work more private with fewer third-party requirements.
• More Choice in Your Therapist
You are not limited to providers on an insurance panel. You can choose a therapist based on specialty, experience, and personal fit—not network status.
• Flexibility in Treatment Length and Focus
Insurance often restricts the number of sessions or requires short-term, symptom-focused goals. Out-of-network therapy allows us to work at the depth and pace needed for meaningful, lasting change.
• Tailored, High-Quality Care
Independent practitioners typically have more control over scheduling, caseloads, and treatment approaches, often resulting in more personalized and attentive care.
Superbills & Reimbursement
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a detailed monthly statement that includes service dates, fees, diagnosis codes (if applicable), and my provider information. You can submit this document directly to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. While reimbursement is not guaranteed, many clients receive coverage based on their plan’s out-of-network rate.
How do I know if my plan will reimburse me?
You can call your insurance company and ask:
Do I have out-of-network benefits for psychotherapy?
What percentage of the session fee will be reimbursed?
What is my annual deductible, and how much of it have I met?
Is a referral required for reimbursement?
How do I submit superbills?
Your insurance plan can provide the most accurate information about coverage and expected reimbursement.
Payment Methods
Payment is due at the time of service. I accept cash, checks, and Zelle.
